In June 2011, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), which coordinates the allocation of names and addresses on the internet, decided to extend the namespace for internet domains and to hold a public tender process to introduce new generic top level domains (new gTLDs).

The next few years will thus see the introduction of numerous other new gTLDs in addition to domain extensions such as .com, .net, .org or .info, and these will allow private individuals, companies, domain investors and SEO experts alike to register domains with the extension of their choice. These completely new namespaces will also allow internet users to secure those domains that among the current domain extensions have long been taken or are only available for high prices from commercial domain exchanges on the secondary market.

I-REGISTRY® has seized this chance and applied to ICANN for the domain extensions it thinks are most interesting, namely .ONLINE, .ONL, .VIP. and .RICH.
